Confession: I have a terrible habit of buying things impulsively,i’ll read a positively glowing review, see an advert or see something on offer and think to myself – I have to have that.
I find myself buying things i think i need but in reality i will probably never use it and end up regretting the money i’ve wasted…
Since starting my blog i have stopped myself from buying any old tat i thought was a good deal, which has saved me a few pennies. However since i started i have brought things “for the blog”,to see if i could find products worth sharing.Whilst most products were worth it, a few haven’t been and i’ve listed 6 of them below.
*Disclaimer – Although i regret buying the following products i know many people love them, hence why i even brought them in the first place.I am not bashing any brand or company that i purchased these items from,i’m just sharing my experience and thoughts.Everyone’s perception of perfection is different.
Jouer long-wear lip creme liquid lipstick in the shade buff – a matte warm peach nude.
This shade doesn’t suit my pale skin at all,it is too orange to be a nude on me,i think the shade is very similar to that of Kylie Jenner’s exposed.I used the wand to line my lips as suggested on their website but still it bleeds, definitely not suited for over drawing my lips. It’s streaky, hard to build up and weirdly smelt like off milkshake when i first used it,which made me feel sick. The smell has faded some weeks later but is still there. That’s the main reason why i haven’t purchased a different shade to try,at £15 a time i wouldn’t want to make the same mistake twice. In saying all that though i would definitely like to try a darker shade, possibly a berry toned one because once its dried down it stays put all day.
Kylie Jenner’s lip kit in the shade KoKo K – a pale pink matte.
I have a few of Kylie’s lip kits now and i love them all,but this is one is terrible.I’m not sure if she changed her formula after the first two batches but this liquid lipstick is so drying,it leaves my lips sore.As soon as i started applying it i knew it was far more drying than any of the others – my lips cracked and once removed i was left with red raw lips for a few days. The shade is far too pink for me,one of the downfalls of online shopping is never knowing how a shade will look on your skin tone.A huge waste of £29 and i felt even more disappointed when i had to pay a £16 customs charge on this particular order when i hadn’t been charged on any previous orders.
Stila stay all day MATTE’ificent lipstick in the shade Jolie – “a neutral pink”.
I very nearly didn’t add this in,but seen as this post is about regrettable purchases rather than complete dislike of a product – i added it.I actually do like the way this lipstick wears,it’s comfortable,non-drying and doesn’t bleed. However because of the shade not being a neutral pink, not on me anyway,i don’t wear it as often as i’d hope to.It’s a strong pink, nothing like the swatch online, not even close.I was also surprised at how it drags a little when applied,i know it’s a matte lipstick,i just didn’t like that about it.I would consider buying a different shade but not online,i would recommend going in store to do your own swatches against your own skin tone.(£15)
Contour cosmetics contour 2 compact palette.
I brought this mainly because i wanted to see how good cream contouring was on me but also to support Grace from trndbeauty who runs her own irish make up company. She started out earlier this year,so i wanted to support her and she has made a great success of her business, stocking some great brands. In my opinion i don’t see what all the fuss was about (after trying it out for myself) i can get the same results with my concealer and bronzer – if not better. It wasn’t cheap either,if i remember correctly with shipping to the uk it cost me around £40 and i’ve only used it twice – not worth the money for me i’m afraid.
Aussie miracle shine shampoo & conditioner.
I have thick, long & colour damaged hair,so when an advert describes their product as being able to bring your hair back from its dull state and give you glossy locks, why wouldn’t you buy it?Unfortunately these products aren’t suitable for my hair type, they weighed my hair down and it felt greasy after only few hours.I was also left with dandruff and the condition didn’t do much for my dry ends.I tried using each one with my normal products but they were still too heavy.I think these would suit someone with fine hair, they are £3.50 each or 3 for 2 in asda.
Benefits Porefessional primer.
I’ve mentioned my disappointment in this product a number of times now so i won’t go on too much.Benefits porefessional primer minimizes pores and helps keep oily skin at bay.Me being the impulsive buyer i am,didn’t do enough research into it before hand and brought it anyway, even with a £24 price tag attached!I have found only one person who shares my opinion on this, everyone else seems to love it.For me personally my t-zone is my problem area,it suffers the most with dry patches,so anything i put down needs to stop this area from cracking and making my foundation look cakey.Porefessional fails to do this for me,after 4 hours of first using it my nose cracked and my foundation looked awful. It also doesn’t sit well on my skin either,it feels like a layer of film sitting under my foundation. It’s made for people with an normal-oily skin type in my opinion.
